Green Toys {Review & Giveaway}

I love supporting products and companies that are eco-friendly so when I found out about Green Toys I was excited to do a review for them. Green Toys offers a collection of kid’s classic toys made from 100% curbside collected plastic. Good for the earth and safe for our little ones too. They contain no BPA, lead or phthalates. I was really excited to hear that they use recycled milk jugs to create these fantastic toys because with the amount of milk jugs we go through at our house it’s kind of fun to think about recycling them and then having toys made out of them.

Start Simple: Recycled Plastic Milk Jugs
We use recycled milk containers as the main ingredient in creating our toys. Yes, the exact plastic milk jugs that you and your family drink from every day. When you finish your milk and toss the container in the recycling bin, these milk containers are collected at your curb by a local recycling company, who then sorts them from all the other types of plastic. Next, the milk containers are reprocessed into super clean fresh plastic. For you plastic geeks, the plastic material we use is called high-density polyethylene (or HDPE). This material is considered one of the safest, cleanest plastics around.

I also love the idea of toys that don’t need batteries or need to be plugged in. Green Toys states that “On average, every pound of recycled milk jugs used in the making of Green Toys: Saves energy equal to 3,000 AAA batteries. Saves enough electricity to power a TV set for 3 whole weeks. Saves enough electricity to keep a laptop computer running for a month.”

  

So not only are these toys helping us save our environment and be more eco-friendly but they are also helping us save expensive costs of batteries and electricity bills in our homes. My kids are from this technology smart generation and are really big into computers and electronics so I wasn’t sure how these toys would go over with them when they realized they couldn’t turn them on or plug them in. We received the Dish Set and the Chef Set. When we pulled it out of the box (by the way I loved that there wasn’t a huge amount of extra packaging around the product- just some cardboard) my girls were so excited. They instantly grabbed them and ran downstairs to find their little kitchen and to play. These two sets kept all three of my girls entertained for at least an hour, then I snatched them away and put them in a box for Christmas- out of sight out of mind I thought, well they got distracted but the next morning my five year old was asking where her dishes were so we had to pull them back out so she could play. Instead of jumping right on the computer to play or turning the television on she went straight for the dishes, which made me very happy. These dishes are very strong and durable and I know will last forever. These dishes are also safe enough to serve real food on them which my kids were excited about because they are always wanting to put food on their other toy plates and water in their cups.
