Kathryn the Grape- Just Like Magic! {Review & Giveaway}

All of my girls absolutely love to read but I think even more than reading they love being read to! It’s definitely a special time of the day right before bed when mom sits down and reads to them, and I don’t do it often enough but as I’ve been prioritizing my schedule I’ve written in reading time before bed with them. Kathryn the Grape- Just Like Magic! was the perfect starting book for our reading time, and the perfect right before bed book.

Kathryn the Grape- Just Like Magic! is a 10”x8” hardcover book with stunning illustrations! All of the colors and full page spreads make this book easy for kids to be drawn to. I really like the messages in this book. While I enjoy a good fantasy book about made up fairy tales I really like the books that just have good strong messages in them for girls! “The magic that exists inside everyone is love. Kathryn the Grape is a messenger of love. By being kind, accepting, helpful, fearless, and discovering her own magic, Kathryn the Grape learns to love herself and others.” (Kathryn Cloward- Q&A)

 

I also really like the repetitiveness of the phrases in this book, for instance my five year old daughter who doesn’t quite know how to read yet really got into the book every time she’d hear me read the word ‘and’ in a certain way she knew the next word was going to be ‘POOF’ and the phrase ‘Just Like Magic!’ It was a fun interactive book to read with my five and six year old girls. I love when Kathryn’s mom says, “You don’t need a magic wand because YOU are magical. Your magic lives inside of you!” and Maggie the butterfly reiterates the same message that, “Your magic is inside of you, always.” That all of the good things Kathryn thought she was doing were because of a magic wand really were just all the good things that made Kathryn, Kathryn. I definitely liked how the author made sure reader’s knew that Kathryn could not use her magic to cause harm to others, the magic could only be used for good.

I love buying books for my girls all year long but especially for Christmas. So this would be a great book to add to your list if you have any children to buy for this year.
