Little Green Books {Review & Giveaway- 4 Winners}

logo Little Green Books offers books that are not only fun for kids but also teach great values about respecting the Earth and helping keep it clean. I know Earth Day only comes around once a year but I think these are important things for our kids to know each and every day of the year. Little Green Books is a series of books, designed to teach children how to be green.

Little Green Books are 100% recyclable, made from recycled paper, and printed with vegetable or soy inks. They have books about recycling, planting a garden, endangered species and many other earthy-friendly living principles.

My kids and I received 4 books from Little Green Books to review.

What Do You See?: A Lift-the-Flap Book About Endangered Animals

by Stephen Krensky

Stephen Krensky’s clever rhyming text entices young readers to guess which endangered species is hiding beneath each flap! From a panda bear to a butterfly, each spread features text and die cuts which hint at the animal’s identity, until finally it is revealed by lifting the flap! Composed of 100% recycled material, this playful and interactive new title is both entertaining and educational!

My Thoughts: This book is recommended for kids ages 2-5 and both my five year old and 2 1/2 year old loved it! My 2 1/2 year old was a little anxious to open the flaps to see what was underneath but my five year old really got into the book trying to figure out what each animal might be and even guessed right on most of them.

I Can Save the Ocean!: The Little Green Monster Cleans Up the Beach

by Allison Inches

Max the Little Green Monster is a cute, furry green monster that loves the outdoors (especially the beach), but Max and his friends don’t like cleaning up after themselves! After a picnic on the shore, they leave a big mess behind and go scuba diving. Max is excited to meet lots of new ocean-swimming friends from crabs to colorful fish to an in-squirting squid, but along the way he learns how his carelessness and littering may have harmed the beautiful ocean. The Little Green Monster then goes on a quest to clean and protect the beach and finds out what it means to be environmentally green.

My Thoughts: My oldest daughter who’s six really liked this book because it definitely was the book with the most words and she’s really big into reading right now. The pictures were bright and colorful making these an easy book to get excited about. As a parent I like how this book illustrated the idea that everything we do has can effect someone or something else.

My First Garden

by Wendy Lewison

Come along with a mother and daughter as they dig up soil, plant a flower bed, and water seeds to make their very first garden. Together they watch the colorful vegetables grow, grow grow! This book teaches a first concept of colors as well. The book has a handle die-cut through on every page so kids can take the book with them wherever they go!

My Thoughts: We used to have a garden bed at our house full of strawberry plants and my girls loved helping water and of course pick and eat the fruit! Now that we are living at my parent’s house after reading this book the girls started asking about planting a garden. My parent’s have a garden bed with a few different things in it but in the spring we will definitely have to revisit it and plant some new things with the help of the girls. Planting a garden has always been a fun idea to me and both environmentally friendly and frugal way to eat healthy. My 2 1/2 year old loved the handle on this book and carried it around the house with her for a few days.

Little Panda

by Kimberly Ainsworth

A new “green” series!: Little Green Books will educate children on what they can do to be more eco-friendly. The books in this line will be made from recycled materials, and the storylines will cover subjects such as improving the environment, learning about endangered animals, recycling, and much more.

Cloth book is made from 50% recycled material. The covers are Polartec fleece made from recycled material. The fabric is machine-washable and the covers are embroidered. Packaged in a chipboard box made from 100% recycled material. Safe for all ages.

My Thoughts: I loved the feel of this book! The Polartec fleece just makes it so soft! Definitely a great book for a young infant or toddler (they suggest ages 0-3). The little chipboard box it came in was definitely cute and if you’re giving this as a gift no wrapping is needed. We are planning on gifting this to my new nephew for Christmas but my 2 1/2 year old daughter keeps stealing it from me so we might have to buy another. She loves all the little pictures of the panda and his friend monkey. The colors are also great and I love that the book is machine-washable, a very desirable trait with little children.

Be sure to check out Little Green Book’s website for games and downloadable activities.

Buy It: These books can be purchased online through Little Green Books site links at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Borders, Powell’s Bookstore, IndieBound and Simon & Schuster.
