Storyland Yoga {Review & Giveaway}

I’ve been looking for a calming activity for my five year old daughter that she can participate in when she comes home from school. She has half day kindergarten and when she comes home at noon and eats lunch then she seems to be cranky the rest of the afternoon. The other day I asked her what was wrong and she told me she was just tired. Well she’s at the age that there’s no ways she’s going to take a nap but she really needs a “rest” time. Everyone that I’ve asked has suggested Yoga so when I had the opportunity to review this DVD from Storyland Yoga I was excited. She’s never done Yoga before so this was completely new to us but we actually won a kid’s yoga mat a few months ago and have it sitting in storage so we pulled it out.

It definitely brings the quiet time I was looking for. I really like the soothing voice of the instructor and I like that Storyland Yoga tells a story instead of just having the kids do Yoga poses, it makes it more interesting I think. After a couple days of yoga I could tell though that it just wasn’t my daughter’s thing, she didn’t get excited about  doing it and each time she only made it about 10 minutes and then lost interest. I don’t know if she’s just too used too much high activity things so the yoga is too boring to her or what the problem was.

However , my two and a half year old REALLY wanted to try it out after seeing her sister do it so I laid the mat out and turned it on for her. She was engaged the entire time! She’s not usually one who will sit and watch TV without getting distracted so I was very surprised. I don’t think she was doing the correct Yoga poses at all time but at one point I glanced over at her and she had her head on the floor with her butt up in the air and wouldn’t move, she stayed there for at least five minutes in that pose until I walked over to find out she was asleep! This is my crazy child who need a nap even more then my five year old in the afternoon. She is definitely one that would benefit from Yoga as a calming activity. So while I think my five year old has given up on it we will definitely be using it for the little one!
