My kids have never really done yoga before. My six year old daughter said they did it in kindergarten and she knew some of the poses and enjoyed it but I had plenty of friends giving me advice that I should get my kids to do yoga if I wanted them to engage in a little calm down time in the afternoon (now that they refuse to take naps). We received a bright purple yoga mat that was really cute because it had yellow prints of the hands and feet on it, a yoga for kids DVD and yoga t-shirt that has pictures of the lungs and kidneys on it so as to help kids do the poses right, for instance- breathing from the lungs and lift your kidneys are said repetitively throughout the DVD. I LOVED the light lavender color of the shirt and the material was incredibly soft!
I tried to get my five year old to do it because she’s the one that really needs the wind down in the afternoon, however she wasn’t too interested in it. She’s always on the go and definitely the child who if she wants to do it she’ll do it but if you tell her to do it she’s not going to, it has to be her idea so she didn’t want much to do with it after the first five minutes or so. However my 2 1/2 year old saw the yoga mat out and decided she wanted to be a part of whatever was going on and when my five year old had taken the t-shirt of she promptly put it on and started stretching on the mat. She was captured with what they were doing on the screen for about ten minutes and then decided she was done, which to me is a huge thing for any little one that young to do something for that long. My six year old however loved it! Having done a few yoga activities at school she knew what she was doing and enjoyed the DVD. Teachings on the DVD are slow enough for kids to attempt any pose, but fast paced enough to keep their attention.
