My 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES Chuggington, the animated TV series on Disney channel. I often have to record episodes on my DVR so she can watch at will upon her request and I’m grateful for the Chuggington Let’s Ride the Rails DVD I reviewed in March. She was extremely excited when we received this new Chuggington Interactive Railway toy set. Whenever I get any packages she always seem to be the first one to claim them for herself, even if they weren’t meant for her. Too bad for her sisters who are at school during the day, LOL. The Chuggington Wash and Fuel Starter Set from Learning Curve has been a fought over toy at our house, especially since it only included one train. We’ve already had requests from our little one who turns 3 next month that we buy all the other trains that were pictured on the box.

A few of my thoughts: This is definitely not a toy that was super easy to put together and while my six and seven year old daughters have found ways to stick the track pieces together it really works best when you follow the instructions exactly. As a parent as long as I have the instructions I could piece each piece where it went easily and after a few times had the setup memorized. However, for young kids I’m not sure it’s the best setup. My 2 1/2 year old definitely can’t put it together herself (note that this is recommended for ages 3+ however she will be 3 next month and I’m pretty sure she’s not going to get it between now and then). So it’s a little bit irritating that I’m always having to put it together when they take it apart. My older girls were a little disappointed that the train didn’t move on its own. I’m fine with this because I believe that not everything needs to be electronically powered and that kids should be using their own imaginations, and my 2 1/2 year old does just fine with this however our kids these days are somewhat conditioned to expect toys to work on their own so they were disappointed. These has cut out the number of fights in our house about who gets to play with the toy because the older two have gotten bored quickly with it. I would definitely recommend this toy for the younger age crowd- preschool aged.
