Dear Friend,

We love you. So much. We haven’t met you yet, but we pray for you every morning and every night and a million times in between. We wonder what you are like. We wonder how we will find you. We hope that you will know how much we care for you. We hope you will like us. We ache for what you are experiencing right now. We commend you for your brave decision to give your baby life and the opportunity to have both a mother and a father. It takes courage to make something good come out of a hard situation.

Though we could never fully understand the agony you must be going through, we have something in common. You and we both understand the pain of a life that did not go according to plan. We both share sleepless nights and tearful days. We both may have asked Heavenly Father “Why is this happening to me?” It is hard to watch your friends living the life that you had imagined for yourself. Perhaps you feel left behind. Perhaps you feel lonely. Of course our experiences have been very different, but we have felt these things too.

We want you to know that you are not alone. While we, of course, are there to comfort you, you also have a Savior who loves you more than words can express. He understands your sorrow perfectly. He alone knows your heart. Heavenly Father has a plan for you. He will never leave you as you face making the biggest decision of your life. He is there.

After finding out that we alone will be unable to bring children into our family, we have immersed ourselves in learning more about adoption. Since embarking on this journey, it has been our goal to learn more about the adoption process from a birthmother's perspective. It is important to us that even though we can't experience the exact pain and loss of a birthmother, we will at least have done everything in our power to be aware of it. After all, these women are angels. They selflessly put their own feelings aside for the well-being of their children. Their selflessness allows families to grow that would have never otherwise been given that opportunity -- families who have waited and prepared years to bring children into their home.

We have marveled at the selflessness shown by each birthmother who places the well-being of her baby above the desires of her own heart. She knows that she could raise her baby on her own, but she also knows that her baby deserves both a mother and a father to love and care for him or her. It is not about what she is cable of doing; it is about what is best for her baby. In an act of total selflessness, she places her baby in the arms of an eternal family. A birthmother’s sacrifice is truly the epitome of pure love.

You are our hero.

We want you to know that you will not be forgotten. We want you to be a part of your baby’s life. We always want our baby to know where they came from and how much you love them. We would love to keep in contact through visits, phone calls, e-mails, and blog posts. We can’t wait to meet you. We can’t wait to hug you and tell you in person how special you are and how much you mean to us. Your example touches our hearts.
