Disney Descendants on DVD {Review}

Have you seen Disney's new movie Descendants? If you loved High School Musical or Teen Beach movie than this one is right up your alley. I think the pop music and story line is upbeat and cute. I like that they are sticking with the whole the villains are evil theme that the original Disney movies portrayed but that their kids don't have to be. They have been given a bad rap because of who their parents are and the way they grew up but that doesn't mean they can't change their futures. I am definitely bugged by a few of the hero kid characters like Chad and Aubrey as they are snobby and Chad is pretty douchey if they were truly good characters as Cinderella I don't think I'd let my son walk around acting like that - he's the true tool that they make him out to be. But this upbeat fun movie proved to provide a little fun entertainment for my entire family. Even if the only entertainment it provided for the adults was laughing at the poorly done costumes (the daughter of Mulan looks like she bought a cheap Chinese dress at a party store and Prince Ben's crown looks plastic) and the cheesy musical numbers every few minutes, I think they butchered "Be Our Guest". This was definitely a winner in the eyes of my 7, 10, and 11 year old daughters. The free bracelet our DVD came with was a nice touch and all of my girls wanted it but it broke only a few hours after my ten year old had it on.  If you're looking for something that will entertain your kids for a few hours then this DVD is right up your alley (my kids actually watched it twice the day we got it).

In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney's iconic "Beauty and the Beast") is poised to take the throne. These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evie, and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes, including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and Mulan. However, the evil teens face a dilemma. Should the follow in their nefarious parents' footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?
