Choffy {Review & Giveaway}

What is Choffy? Ground Cocoa Beans! I was excited to try this because I’m not a coffee drinker and thought that this would probably be similar to hot chocolate. Well don’t go into it thinking that because it’s definitely not hot chocolate.

 

Being someone who has never had coffee I was completely clueless on what to do wit this bag of ground cocoa beans I received. Luckily it also came with some great instructions on how to brew. My grandma has a regular auto drip coffee machine (however I’ve been told this would work better with a French Press) but we decided to try our own method and throw it on the stovetop in a pan. Thanks to Google we figured out how to correctly brew coffee on the stovetop in a pan and then used those directions. So after about 20 minutes of the house smelling absolutely wonderful (it seriously made me want some homemade brownies) we strained it and had our cup of Choffy. I was surprised at how well my tea ball strainer worked so that our drink was nice and smooth. Now remembering that I don’t drink coffee I took a big swig of Choffy and am glad I did it over the sink because it was about the grossest thing I’ve ever tasted! Everyone who has ever had straight black coffee is probably laughing at me right now! :) So it wasn’t a good first impression but after adding quite a bit of sugar it was pretty good. I will say it again I’m definitely not a coffee drinker and thinking this was going to be like hot chocolate was the wrong way to go.

This would probably be a great drink for those of you used to drinking coffee because you can still have your hot morning drink without the negative caffeine side effects. Cocoa beans are naturally high in Theobromine, Antioxidants, Magnesium and Iron. They give you long-lasting energy, not just a quick burst only to crash later. I’ve also heard that you can mix the cocoa beans in with coffee grounds and some people still mix the Choffy in with decaf coffee to get the coffee taste but the energy from Choffy instead of caffeine.

I also received one of the Choffy truffles and will say I didn’t enjoy the taste of this either, I don’t know if I was tainted because of my first taste of Choffy or if I’m just not used to the flavor, however I have hard people say that they are delicious!

So while I’m not sure I’ll be drinking Choffy again don’t let that deter you from Choffy because it’s definitely something I think you need to try for yourself, especially if you are normally a coffee drinker. This might also make a great holiday gift for that person you know drinks coffee but is especially hard to buy for this time of year.
