You’ve probably heard of Zhu Zhu pets- they’ve been pretty popular for a couple years now and my girls beg for them every time we are in the toy department of the store. They are adorable fuzzy hamsters that move and make noises and they have come out with a new line of Zhu Zhu Babies.I was recently sent a few products to review that included the Zhu Zhu Babies Tiny Tot Gym, Snuggems (a Zhu Zhu Baby) and Peachy one of the original Zhu Zhu Pets.
Snuggems is a light orange color and came with a white blanket, bottle, cup and plate. The Tiny Tot Gym has a slide, hamster wheel and activity area.
An original Zhu Zhu pet is required to power this activity set. The roller ball in the bottom of the Zhu Zhu Baby is caught by a magnetic strip in the bottom of the play set causing the Zhu Zhu baby to slide around on the floor. The hamster wheel also rolls when powered by the Zhu Zhu Pet and the accessory toys on the side spin.
Along with The Tiny Tot Gym and Zhu Zhu Baby Snuggems we were also sent Peachy, one of the original Zhu Zhu Pets. Peachy moves on her own and unlike the Zhu Zhu Baby makes all kinds of squeaky noises.
These hamster toys are the perfect alternative to real pets. I know I’m not a huge fan of real animals and while my kids beg for some kind of pet they’re at the age where I’d definitely get stuck taking care of it. So I’m all for these cute little furry animals that you can put away and not have to worry about 24/7.
My girls are 7, 6 and 2 1/2 and while they love playing with the Zhu Zhu Pets- the play sets are not easy to put together. The instructions are very basic- no words just picture with numbers and while it wasn’t too difficult for me to eventually figure out I know they wouldn’t be able to do it on their own. These fun little toys are suggested for ages 4+ but my 2 1/2 year old with a little supervision loves watching the Zhu Zhu pet power the little Zhu Zhu baby around the Tiny Tot Gym.
These little toys come with the caution that all motorized wheel toys have the potential for hair entanglement. To prevent entanglement, keep hair away from wheels- I would put a HUGE CAUTION on this. Definitely reiterate this to your children BEFORE they start playing with them. The very first thing my six year old did was stick it on her 7 year old sister’s head and the next thing I knew she was screaming. Be sure to check out the Product Info and Safety on Zhu-niverse for instructions on how to remove Zhu Zhu Pets from hair.
