DownEast Basics {Review & Giveaway}

 

 

DownEast Basics has got to be my all time favorite store and place to shop for cute, stylish and modest clothing!  Everything I have purchased or received from DownEast has been top quality in style, fabric, stitching and color. These aren’t the type of clothes that I have to worry about shrinking after washing and they are easy to wash. You won’t see me taking an armful of clothes to the dry cleaners, just tosh them in the washing machine and then hang to try (be sure to check the tags on your specific clothing item for washing instructions). I LOVE this feature because when you have little kids you always seem to get something on your clothes, that’s just the life of a mom. DownEast’s clothes are both comfy and stylish. So you can wear them just about anywhere, church, a night out on the town, the beach, or school- the possibilities are endless they really have something for just about every occasion.

I am the oldest in a family of 6 girls with 1 brother and every single one of my siblings and all three of my own children own at least one thing from DownEast Basics- some of them even have closets full of these wonderful clothes. My little sister is lucky enough to live in Rexburg, Idaho where they have multiple store locations nearby, however I’m also excited to announce that in July they will be opening a brand new store near my house!! Only 20 minutes away (which is as close as the mall gets for us). Sometimes I hesitate about buying things online but having a store this close is going to be dangerous for my husbands paycheck!

(Ignore the fact that I’m not wearing any shoes I ordered a really cute pair of sandals that will go perfect with this dress from Payless but they haven’t arrived yet)

Right now I’m in love with the Maxi dress trend because I love the long dresses. I have a few other dresses from DownEast (from older catalogs) that are also long and LOVE them! So I knew when I chose the Bay Blossom Maxi Dress that I’d love it purely because of the length. (I’ve gotten multiple comments from women at church about how people love the long length of my dresses and inquiries of where to find these great clothes for themselves and their girls!) DownEast sent me the Bay Blossom Maxi Dress in the Silver Peony Color (peach) to review. My other DownEast dresses are made from a stretchy material so I LOVED this one because the instant I put it on I knew it would be a great dress for those hot summer days. It’s made of a Cotton Voile and is lined but it’s so lightweight it’s perfect! Normally I wouldn’t necessarily gravitate towards a dress like this because it doesn’t have sleeves however I saw in the DownEast June catalog their model wearing it over her swimsuit so I decide to give it a try.

Once it arrived I decided that I could probably wear a white cap sleeve shirt underneath the dress and make it a little more modest and it worked! I think it looks great both ways so this dress just turned into my all time new favorite outfit for everything. I love this dress because it’s so simple yet so elegant and feminine. It’s a simple slip on dress without any buttons, zippers, snaps or ties and has a great empire waistline that would also make this a great maternity dress. Not that I’m announcing anything, however I do have two pregnant sisters right now who love DownEast and DownEast does not officially carry maternity clothes but this dress would be great for them! It’s also the kind of material that wrinkles pretty easily but the kind of material and style that looks great with a few wrinkles – so I will not be obsessing over keeping it ironed, it’ll probably be one of those items that gets thrown in my tote bag when I go swimming this summer to just pull out and slip on. Now I’m wishing I also had this dress in the  Moonstruck color so I could have two in my closet!

(I can no longer find this dress in either color on DownEast Basics website however I did brose their Facebook page and found someone asking about it to which they responded to try and check back early next week to see if they had received anymore. So if you really want this one be sure to keep checking since it looks like it’s pretty popular and sells out fast.)

DownEast also has some other really great styles and cute tops too in their new June catalog – I actually had my sister in Idaho pick up the Sun Kissed Tunic with a few white wonder tees and I put an online order in myself for the Turn Back Time Tunic in Navy/White and the Come Together Top in Black- which isn’t a new item but still really cute!
